Sundance Mat 4×6 Ft x 3/4 Inch Straight Edge Standard

The Greatmats 4×6 Ft x 3/4 Inch Straight Edge Standard Sundance horse stall product is the straight edge version of our very popular Interlocking Sundance Stall Mat. These incredibly durable and affordable 4×6 rubber stall mats work perfectly in horse stalls, weight rooms, and Cross Fit gyms, or wherever the smell of rubber is not a concern indoors.

The 4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. Straight Edge Standard Sundance Tile features a pebble like top surface for added traction to your floor. The stall mat weight of 100 pounds per tile means these tiles are not designed to be portable, but they’ll work great as a permanent type of surface installation in a horse stall.

Features of Sundance 4×6 Tiles

Here are some of the key features of our Straight Edge Standard Sundance thick rubber stall mat tiles.

Materials: The primary material used in making these tiles is recycled rubber.

Water resistance: Water or other liquids will not penetrate these horse stall mats.

No-slip surface: Each tile offers a slightly rough, pebble like surface that prevents slippage. The surface is called a punter surface.

Designed to Stay Put: The stall mat weight per tile measures about 100 pounds each, meaning the tiles are not easily portable. And the 3/4 inch thickness of these 4×6 stall mats means they cannot be rolled up easily for carrying.

Easy installation: As long as you have a flat surface over which to lay the mats, you can install them relatively easily. Place the rubber mats over the top of concrete, dirt or gravel. Because the horse stall mat weight is 100 pounds per tile, at least two people should work together on installation.

Cutting: Even though these 4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. thick rubber stall mat tiles are heavy and have a sturdy construction, you can cut them to fit around the edges of the stall with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. You then can bend the mat across a 2×4 and snap it before cutting the other side, just like a piece of drywall. Another option is to cut the rubber mat with a jigsaw or with an electric circular handsaw, but you’ll want some help to complete this process safely. Using a saw will also cause the blade to dull.

Benefits of Sundance Horse Mats

Although the traditional surface for a horse stall is firmly packed dirt, sprinkled with hay or straw as bedding, thick rubber mats, such as our Straight Edge Sundance mats, have quite a few advantages over using dirt in the horse stalls.

Lower costs: With heavy rubber mats installed, you’ll use less hay and bedding in the stalls. The horse won’t grind the bedding into the dirt, meaning less is needed.

No More Muddy Floor: A dirt floor will soak up water and urine, eventually turning into a muddy mess. Our Sundance mats do not soak up water, meaning the floor of the stall remains easy to clean. Additionally, the sturdy rubber stall mat weight means it resists curling or buckling, so water cannot seep underneath.

No More Rutted Floor: Horses may cause ruts in a dirt floor, leaving it uneven for walking and unsafe. The horse stall mat weight allows it to remain in place, providing a smooth surface for the horse and for the owner.

Mucking: Cleaning up after the horse becomes much easier with thick rubber mats installed. With mats, you don’t have to deal with muddy or uneven ground inside the stall that makes shoveling and sweeping difficult. You also won’t lose your gravel or other fill during the mucking process.

Cushioning: Although our rubber horse mats are sturdy and provide a hard surface, they do have a little bit of give to them. This means they’re softer on the horse’s joints than concrete or hard-packed dirt or gravel. These rubber mats provide shock absorption and anti-fatigue benefits for large animals.

Warming layer: Having a layer of stall mat weight in the tiles provides a bit of insulation for the horse versus standing and laying on a cold dirt floor. A heavy horse stall mat weight works especially well for a horse with joint or arthritis problems.

Selecting the Right Horse Stall Mat

Each horse stall mat can support the weight of the horse as it moves around, as long as you select a high quality of mat. Some key features to consider include the following.

Thickness: Our 4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. Straight Edge Sundance mat tiles provide a desirable thickness level. The 3/4 of an inch of thickness supports the weight of the horse extremely well, although thicker pads are available (usually up to 2 inches in thickness). However, installing mats thicker than 3/4 of an inch can be difficult because of the added weight they have. A 4×6 rubber mat that’s 2 inches thick will weigh more than 250 pounds.

4x6 stall mats

Straight edges: It’s extremely important to have mats that either lock together or that have straight edges that tightly fit together. Should gaps develop between the tiles, you may find water and urine leaking into the gaps and muddying the ground beneath. This may compromise the ground beneath the mats.

Interlocking mats: Although our 4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. Straight Edge Sundance mats do not interlock at the edges, Greatmats does offer interlocking mats. An interlocking mat option represents a smarter idea for your horse stall mat choices if your horse likes to dig or paw at things in its stall. The seams of interlocking mats fit together tighter than straight edge mats, preventing damage from pawing.

Weight: Even though thicker and larger stall mat weight makes the tiles more difficult to install, heavier mats are more desirable. Heavier mats have less of a chance of slipping out of place or buckling under the weight of the horse moving around. Because of the weight of these rubber tiles, you’ll definitely want some help with the installation process.

Sundance Mat 4x6 Straight Edge Standard wp12
Construction quality: Selecting a horse stall mat weight of a high quality, such as our Greatmats Sundance 4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. mats, is a must, which ensures the mat won’t shift around or curl at the edges. Lesser quality rubber mats may include non-uniform thickness or a thickness level that’s less than stated in the specifications, both of which could causes a failure of the mat through buckling. Cheaper mats won’t have perfectly straight edges either, meaning they won’t fit together.

Should you need a different size or thickness of horse stall mats than our 4×6 rubber stall mats, Greatmats carries several options. Just contact our helpful customer service center or look through the links on our site to see what’s available.

Preparation for Installation

Before ordering the thick rubber stall mat tiles, you will want to closely measure the area of the stall. Mats should go to the edges of the stall, just to ensure that there’s no chance of tripping over the edges for you or the horse. Figure out how many square feet you need.

The standard size of one mat measures 48 inches wide by 72 inches in length, resulting in 24 square feet per tile. Here are the number of tiles you’ll need for some standard horse stall layouts.

10 by 12 feet: 5 tiles
10 by 14 feet: 6 tiles
12 by 12 feet: 6 tiles
12 by 14 feet: 7 tiles
12 by 16 feet: 8 tiles

Before your 4 ft. x 6 ft. x 3/4 in. tiles from Greatmats arrive, you’ll want to prepare the stall area. Clean up the area, removing any manure, stray bedding and straw.

Make sure the area is level. The area doesn’t have to be perfectly level to the point that you use a bubble level to measure it, but it should be flat enough that the thick rubber stall mat tiles will lay flat.

Although you may install the 4×6 stall mats directly over a dirt floor, you may want to lay down a bed of a couple of inches of pea gravel. This provides a good base to ensure a flat area over which to place the rubber mat tiles.

Other Uses

Beyond using the Straight Edge Sundance tile mats inside a horse stall, you could use them for an installation in a weight room. The thick mats will protect the floor underneath from any dropping of heavy free weights on the floor. Additionally, these rubber tiles will stand up to heavy exercise equipment without suffering damage.

However, these tiles do yield a rubbery smell, greater than that of other types of Greatmats flooring options. If you choose to use these thick rubber stall mat tiles indoors, you may experience some odor, especially in a room with little ventilation.

Geneva Rubber Floor Tiles

For commercial gyms and health clubs, our Geneva Rubber Tiles are an excellent flooring option.  This durable, commercial grade, interlocking rubber floor tile is available in thicknesses from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in a 3×3 ft tile size.  All the tiles in this series are center tiles with interlocking tabs on all four sides.

Typically used to protect the floor from exercise equipment such as treadmills or stationary bikes, rubber flooring is also the top choice for most facilities for keeping the floor safe from free weights.  Rubber is a hard surface that can take a beating.  However, please note that if you’re looking for a soft surface for aerobic activities, you would probably be happier with a softer product such as foam or one of our modular tiles.

Greatmats Geneva Rubber Tile 8mm Color FlecksIn most scenarios, a rubber tile thickness of 8mm is sufficient protection for your floors.  For walkways and areas where there won’t be weights dropped, you can usually get by with 1/4″ rubber.  However, if you are looking at an area where heavy weights (100 lbs or more) are going to be dropped repeatedly, you will want to go with a thicker option.  1/2″ rubber is usually the choice for those situations.

This interlocking rubber flooring tile option is an excellent choice for large scale commercial projects for a couple reasons.  It is easier to install rubber tiles than rubber rolls.  They aren’t as heavy and do not require a glue or tape-down application because the interlocking edges will keep the floor solidly together.  Over time, the seams between tiles will actually begin to fade to the point where they become very hard to see.  These tiles are better than our smaller 2×2 tiles for larger installations because fewer tiles means less installation time and fewer seams..

Greatmats Rubber Tile 3/8 Inch Color FlecksThe Geneva rubber floor tile series is our stocked line of 3×3 ft interlocking rubber floor tiles in standard colors and thicknesses, choose 8 mm for the best value.  It is only one millimeter thinner than 3/8″ tiles but is less expensive and you will not notice a difference in the performance of the product.

Because the interlocking design for the Geneva series of rubber floor tiles is a universal interlock design, you can spin the tiles in any direction and attach them to another tile.  This is particularly helpful when trying to piece the final few tiles in on a wall-to-wall installation.  Universal interlock tiles usually yield the least amount of material waste.  You can easily cut these rubber tiles for a custom wall-to-wall installation in your home gym or in large scale commercial installations.

Greatmats Rubber Tile 1/2 Inch BlackTo determine how many tiles you need, measure the walls in your room.  Enter those dimensions in our convenient online floor planner and it will calculate the tile count for you.  If you’d rather, give one our representatives a call and we can help you to decide how many rubber floor tiles to buy.

Geneva floor tiles are available in six colors.  They are made in the USA of recycled content.

Geneva Rubber Tiles-3×3′

Designed for larger, commercial applications, the Geneva interlocking rubber flooring tile series is our stocked line of 3×3 ft interlocking rubber floor tiles.  These rubber tiles are available in standard colors and thicknesses from 1/4 to 1/2 inch in a 3×3 ft tile size.

Great for commercial gym areas, these tiles are designed to protect the floor from the wear and tear of everyday weight lifting and exercise machinery.  In most situations, an 8mm or 3/8” thickness is best for weight areas.  1/4” is sufficient for walkways and other traffic areas.  For places where heavy weights (100 lbs or more) are consistently dropped to the floor, you may want to go with a 1/2” rubber for extra protection.
Standard colors for this rubber flooring product are as follows:
1/4” tiles are available in 20% colors.  8mm and 3/8” product comes in black as well as a 10% color fleck.  1/2” tiles are available in black.
The best value we offer is our 8mm thickness.  This is (roughly) 1mm thinner than our 3/8” product and you won’t notice the difference in performance between these two tile thicknesses.
The connection edges for these rubber floor tiles is a universal interlock design.  This means that the interlocking system is not dependent on which way the tile is oriented for the sides to connect to another tile.  This handy feature will maximize tile usage yielding the least amount of material waste.  Easily cut these rubber tiles for a custom wall-to-wall installation in your home gym or in large scale commercial installations with a sharp utility knife and a straightedge.
Interlocking rubber floor tiles are nice because, unlike some other flooring options, they require no adhesive for installation.  Simply piece the tiles together like a giant puzzle and you’re done.  If you decide to relocate, you can simply pack them up and take them with you.
To clean your rubber flooring, simply sweep and mop with a damp mop.

Color Plus Tiles

Home gyms are enjoying a boon of popularity.  This can be attributed to a number of different factors:
The cost of equipment is coming down while its quality is increasing.  More and more people are deciding to take the money they would spend on a commercial gym membership and investing it in their homes.  The membership, along with commuting costs, can be easily transferred into their own basements.
Also, the distractions that come with working out in a public place are eliminated.
Combine all these reasons with the fact that many people are embarrassed to start training in front of strangers and you have a recipe for a large home gym groundswell.
Along with this surge of home gym usage, more people are concluding they need rubber flooring to protect the surfaces of their floors.  All it takes is a dumbbell dropped on a few ceramic tiles and you have a problem on your hands.
An excellent product for home and commercial gym flooring, our Rubber Tile Color Plus will make your space look great.  This product is truly state-of-the-art.  Its tensile strength is four times stronger than most gym flooring products on the market today.
The unique color options and top texture design are not found in any other products.  Molded from SBR rubber, this tile is constructed to present a seamless look when installed.
Great for weight rooms and home gyms, this product is also great for walk areas in ice arenas, golf pro shops, locker rooms, animal care facilities, trade show booths, and batting cages.
Corners and borders are beveled or ramped down.  For a wall to wall installation, you will want to order center tiles.  The sizes of these tiles vary:  center tiles are 2 ft x 2 ft.  Borders measure 1 ft x 2 ft.   Corners cover three square feet each.  All tiles are 3/8” (9mm) thick.
These gym floor tiles feature a non-slip surface.  They are available in nine dynamic colors sure to match your décor.  Color Plus Tiles are made in the USA.
To install this gym floor requires no adhesive.  Simply interlock the edges together like a giant puzzle and you’re done.  For wall-to-wall installations, you can simply cut the tiles as necessary with a sharp utility knife.

To clean your gym flooring, use a neutral PH cleaner – such as Taski Profi.
This product is shipped via freight delivery.

Customer Review-Rolled Rubber

“I am extremely elated and I would most definitely buy from Greatmats again.”

-Don R.
Don chose 3/8” rubber rolls.  He used this rubber flooring to design a fitness center in his basement.  Don attended the National Academy of Sports Medicine to become a personal trainer and it has always been a dream of his to own a fitness center and train clients.

We’ll let him tell his story:

“I wanted the flooring to be durable, flexible, comfortable, and compliment the red and black color scheme of the equipment…I researched some home gym flooring companies online and at brick and mortar…I decided to use Greatmats flooring rolls…the flooring is solid, sturdy, and does not shift when training.”

Rolled rubber is a great option for home gym flooring where weights and exercise equipment is going to be used on a regular basis.  Interlocking rubber tiles are more common for home applications because they’re easier to install and require no adhesives.  This makes the flooring easy to transport if you decide to change locations and want to bring your rubber flooring with you.  However, rolled rubber is less expensive and is often found in commercial applications.   Since Don is using his basement fitness center as a business, it makes sense that he would go this way with the rubber flooring.
Don goes on to say, “when friends, family members, and potential clients visit my fitness room, they say the flooring looks really nice.  One friend who I showed the pictures of the flooring to indicated that it looked professionally done.  The installation went perfectly as explained by Tina (one of our customer service reps).  Thanks, Tina, for your superb advice.  It took 3-4 hours because I wanted it done neatly…the most rewarding part of this project: I saved over $2500 by purchasing the flooring and doing it myself…the website elucidated and depicted the different styles of flooring, percentage of coloring and method of how to request the sample.  I thought it was convenient to get a written quote that included the shipping freight and the total cost…the main reason I purchased my material from Greatmats was because of the superlative customer service, knowledgeable customer service associate, quality products, competitive prices, and concise written quotes.  Moreover, without the rubber flooringmy training room would be incomplete.  I appreciate your company assisting me in achieving my long term goal.”
So, Don, would you recommend Greatmats to your friends?
“Yes, with a favorable endorsement!!!!1”

Thank you, Don.  We’re glad you’re happy with your rubber flooring.  We’re sure you’ll enjoy it for many years to come.

Our rubber flooring products are available in various roll and tile sizes and types.  Be sure to check through your options to determine the product that it best for your unique application.  Do you have questions?  Don’t hesitate to contact one of our customer service representatives and we’ll help you decide the best product for you!
