Carpet Tiles Raised Squares

Greatmats own Carpet Tiles Raised Squares are made in the USA and easy to install over a hard flat surface such as a concrete basement floor. Carpet Tiles Raised Squares for basements are waterproof and will not absorb any moisture. If the concrete sub-floor does get wet, these raised carpet tiles allow for airflow beneath the modular tile and can be disassembled and re-installed as needed.

You’ll love these raised basement carpet tiles for installation in any area where carpeting is needed. And because these individual tiles are easy to assemble and disassemble, you can use our snap carpet tiles as a temporary type of flooring where you’ll need to return the room to the original flooring after an event.

Construction of the Basement Carpet Tiles

Our modular snap together carpet tiles feature a durable plastic polypropylene base with a recycled content carpeted top. This type of design gives these click carpet tiles a durable build quality that will last a long time. Yet the surface on the top of the basement carpet tiles gives you all of the benefits of carpeting, including softness not achieved by hard flooring options.

Each carton contains tiles with both a vertical orientation and a horizontal orientation. The cartons have half of each type of orientation. You can install the raised carpet tiles in alternating orientations to make a checkerboard pattern. This is a common type of installation with snap together carpet tiles, as the grain of the carpet varies over the run. Rather than installing the tiles with the orientation matching throughout the room, which would make these variations in grain more noticeable, alternating orientation is the preferred method of installation.

Easy Installation Methods

Carpet Tiles Raised Squares install very easily, providing a raised flooring carpeted surface that is ideal for cold basement floors.

Each Greatmats Basement Carpet Tile Raised Square contains a loop and tab type of design. This type of construction serves two purposes. The tiles will stay together tightly after the installation, so no adhesive is required to put them together. Additionally, these tiles can be installed quickly and disassembled if needed. So you can use these carpet tiles for a type of installation where you need the floor to be temporary, which gives them a lot of versatility.

The individual raised carpet tiles will have female loops on two sides of the square and tabs on the underside of the other two sides of the square. This layout makes the snap together carpet tiles easy to install.

When you’re ready to put these tiles together, start in one corner of the area, whether you’re doing a wall-to-wall installation or an island installation. Place the first tile in the corner with the two sides with female loops in the direction where you’ll want to lay additional tiles. Then lay the tab portion of one tile over the loop portion of the adjacent tile, make sure the two tiles are aligned, and gently step on the seam between the two tiles to interlock them together.

If you’re having trouble locking the two raised carpet tiles into place, make sure that the two tiles are perfectly aligned, where the tabs are directly over the opening in the loops on the adjacent tile. Even the first time you install the snap together carpet tiles, it takes little extra force to push the tabs through the loops.

You won’t have to worry about tabs breaking off or becoming too loose under normal use and installation methods. The plastic pieces on the underside of the tiles are very durable, ensuring that our snap together carpet tiles will not pull apart once they’re installed, no matter how many times you assemble and disassemble the tiles. Our tiles carry a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty, which reflects their tough construction quality.

Special Installation Ideas

If you’re using our basement carpet tiles with an island installation – meaning you’re connecting these tiles in the middle of the room away from the walls – you may want to install border edging on these tiles. Each tile measures 9/16 inches in thickness, which means there is a slight lip on the edge of the tiles when creating an island installation. This could end up creating a tripping hazard for people as they step from the sub-floor onto the carpet tile island installation.

Greatmats offers border edging, which will create a ramped edge on the island installation of the raised carpet tiles. This gradual ramp up to the surface of the Basement Carpet Tile Raised Squares eliminates the tripping hazard. Just contact our Greatmats customer service team to learn more about how to order border pieces that use the same peg and loop installation system for an easy connection to the snap-together carpet tiles. Greatmats also offers products with the same style of raised plastic base that allows you to transition seamlessly from carpet to vinyl or plastic court or garage flooring.

If you’re creating a wall-to-wall installation of the basement carpet tiles, you may need to cut some pieces to fit tightly against the wall. When cutting the tiles to fit, use a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. Measure the space carefully where the cut tile will fit and mark it on the tile you will cut. Then cut the top side of the carpet first. Flip the tile over and cut into the plastic base tray. Once you have deeply scored both sides of the tile, bend the tile open along the score lines and break it apart. Power saws also work well in cutting this material.

Portable Installation Options

Unlike many types of carpet tiles, the Greatmats tiles will not absorb water. This really gives the tiles some interesting use cases. You do have to use the carpet tiles indoors, as they are not UV treated, meaning they would fade with sun exposure. But here are some ideas for making use of these tiles indoors to create a portable flooring option.

Events: If you have a warehouse setting or another building that contains a cold, hard floor, our carpet tiles are appropriate for creating a warmer atmosphere for the event. Just lay out the tiles in the area where people will be gathering, and you’ll have a flooring option that looks great. You can place tables and chairs on top of the carpet tiles, and this Made-in-the-USA product will hold up to the weight.

Create a Walkway: For events like graduation and awards ceremonies, you may want to create a special walkway that will draw attention to the people being honored. Just lay out these tiles in a pattern for the walkway that the people involved can follow toward a stage. Not only does this walkway look great, but the carpeted tile surface may be safer to walk on than a slick hard floor surface.

Entryway: For businesses that primarily operate out of a warehouse with a cement floor, you can use our Greatmats carpet tiles to create a welcoming area for customers for a couple of days of business meetings. Once the meetings are over, just pull up the carpet tiles and return to the efficient cement floor.

Once your special use for these tiles is completed, just disassemble the tiles and place them in storage until the next time you need them.

Adding Underlayment

When installing these modular tiles over concrete floors, we recommend using a 2 mm to 6 mm rubber underlayment to provide shock absorption, to increase comfort, and to muffle sound. The use of rubber underlayment for home installations over concrete also may reduce the potential for a clicking noise occurring when people walk on them.

The Greatmats home underlayment options feature the 2 mm EZ Floor or the 3 mm rubber underlayment. If you are installing tiles in an area where leaks or condensation may occur, however, then we do not recommend using an underlayment.

Ordering Ideas

The Greatmats Basement Carpet Tile Raised Squares do not have any loss of coverage space for the interlocking edges of the tiles, as you might receive with a puzzle style of tile. Each square tile measures 1.01 by 1.01 feet and will cover 1.02 square feet of floor space.

Should you want to create a checkerboard design or an island design by using more than one color of basement carpet tiles, we have you covered. Greatmats offers both gray and tan tiles, and you can order both colors. Because the snap together design of our tiles will allow you to connect different colors of carpet tiles together, you can create any kind of pattern in the tiles you want without having to worry about the tiles fitting together properly.

Home Gyms

Greatmats has rubber flooring available in rolls or interlocking tiles. Rubber is ideal to place under exercise equipment because it is hard and durable. We provide rubber flooring from ¼-inch to 1-inch thickness. Our rubber flooring is available in a variety of colors, plain black or black with colored flecks.

Our interlocking material is simple to install, as it requires no tape or glue to set. This material protects concrete surfaces and the exercise equipment set on top of it. Since the rubber connects together, no adhesive is necessary to install, and it is also quick and easy to remove. This material is a primary option for most in home workout spaces.

The most affordable option for rubber flooring is our rolled material, which also protects concrete floors and exercise equipment. Rolled rubber flooring is most commonly installed in larger spaces, such as commercial gyms, but in-home installation is also possible. For the best results, we recommend using tape for temporary use of the material, and adhesive for more permanent installations. Our rolled rubber flooring is sold in lengths of 10 feet and longer. It is shipped via freight delivery, except for 4’x10’x¼” rolls.

Foam flooring tiles are an economical option for basements, great for exercise rooms and kids play areas. The tiles come in a number of different colors, textures and thicknesses. Soft, safe, warm, and easy to install, foam tiles are comfortable to walk on and can brighten up an ordinary colorless basement. Our ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam floor material is waterproof and provides a safer, softer surface to walk on.

Multifunctional Rooms

Available carpeted flooring for basements includes interchangeable, snap-together tiles and interlocking carpet top, foam cushioned tiles. Both options add comfort to a hard surface and are perfect for use on damp basement floors. Our interlocking, foam-backed tiles provide comfort and cushion support. Both options are manageable to maintain and installation is simple. No adhesive or carpet pad is necessary.

The best carpet tiles we have to offer are our Royal interlocking tiles. Durable, foam-cushioned and soft to the touch, this material provides a warm and comfortable flooring option for your basement. A thick, non-water absorbent, foam bottom makes for a comfortable surface over a hard basement floor. Available in a variety of designer colors, the tiles are easy to remove, clean, reinstall and dry easily if wet.

Moisture AND Style?

Raised floor tiles are a material to be considered when addressing moisture issues in your basement. These tiles are water and moisture resistant. They feature an elevated base system which allows air to move under the finished flooring surface.

Our Max tile is a raised floor option that is eye pleasing and reliably durable. The material snaps easily together and can be temporarily or permanently installed. The tiles can be cut for a wall-to-wall fit. Max tiles come in a several design options and are strong enough to last for years. Choose from a variety of stone, grain or wood looks, including light or dark oak, maple, cherry or walnut plank, slate or stone. This is a higher quality material and a popular solution for your basement flooring needs.

Another carpeted raised flooring material available is our CarpetFlex tile. This is an affordable material which features a strong, interlocking plastic base and a carpeted surface. Similar to the Max tile, CarpetFlex is a raised flooring option that allows air to flow underneath the tiles. Easy to install, and available in two colors, this tile works great on basement floors, family rooms, utility rooms or entry ways.

For island installations in larger rooms, flooring material with border options may be useful to consider. Much of our flooring material is designed with straight or ramped borders that give a more finished look to your floor. When installing wall-to-wall flooring, think about starting the material either in the corner of the room that shares two of the longest walls, or in the center of the room, cutting the tiles to fit wall to wall.

Installing basement flooring is usually a simple, do-it-yourself task. Most of our materials, especially snap-together and interlocking tiles, require little time and can be easily removed. Maintaining them is as simple as it is to clean other household floors. Make sure to use neutral pH floor cleaner when cleaning rubber material.

Customer Review-MaxTile/CarpetFlex

Another great review for our MaxTile and Carpet Flex products!

Peggy B. used our flooring in her basement.  Here’s what she had to say:
“I have a full finished basement with 2 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, TV room and a walk in closet.  In Jan 2013 my basement was back flushed with sewer and all my subflooring, wall to wall carpet and 2′ of drywall was removed.  This was the second time the flooring had to be taken up.”

*Editors Note:  Bummer.

“So I saw your product and thought, NO MORE taking up the sub flooring…the Max Tile was used for the bathroom floor and the Carpet Flex was used for the rest of the area (bedrooms, closet, tv room).”

We asked Peggy how the installation went and how long it took.

“I took one day off from work and did most of it in less than 8 hours (approx 700 sf).  I bought a table saw and had no problems.  Loved it!”

Are you happy with the product and would you buy it again?

“Absolutely love it and would buy again!”

And now the big question…would you recommend Greatmats to your friends?

“Already have!!!!”

So, there you have it.  Four exclamation points and all.  Peggy’s thrilled with this product because it’s waterproof, built to last, and easy to install.  If you’d like more information about basement flooring or any of our products…
