With athletes from more than 60 academies registered to compete in the American Grappling Federation’s Jackson BJJ Championships at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi on April 30, the day is sure to have adrenaline flowing at an all-time high.

Last year’s team champion, the No Limit Killer Bees will look to defend their title while Vector Jiu-Jitsu aims to improve on last year’s second place finish. BJJ Revolution, which placed third at the tournament a year ago is riding high after a team victory at the New Orleans BJJ Championships on March 12.

Festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. At the Hangar Dome of Millsaps College.

Kansas City BJJ Championships bigger than ever

Greatmats Photobomb at American Grappling Federation Tournament Don’t Miss the American Grappling Federation’s 2016 Kansas City BJJ Championship, sponsored by Greatmats, April 23 at the LeVO Sports Complex in Riverside, Missouri.

In its second year with the AGF, the Kansas City BJJ Championships has nearly doubled its intrants for the 2016 tournament with more than 400 competitors pre-registered. The 400-plus competitors, ages 3-55, represent nearly 80 martial arts academies and will compete in 222 divisions.

Last year’s KC BJJ Championship Tournament was held Aug. 29 and won by Gracie Barra with 270 points. Kansas City BJJ was close behind with 260 points.

AGF Grappling Action sponsored by GreatmatsThis year, there are three Gracie Barra Teams (Hannibal, St. Louis and Whiteman AFB) with competitors entering more than 100 events. Kansas City BJJ has already 26 athletes registered for 53 events.

Greatmats/Warriors United Featured Karateka – Keaton Detwiler

Keaton Detwiler has been practicing karate for 5 years and has won four state championships.

With the Warriors United Tournament Circuit’s Rumble on the River 3 tournament approaching on April 23. We’d like to take a look back at one of the top performers of the March 12 Connellsville Classic – the most recent Warriors United Tournament.

Fourteen-year-old Keaton Detwiler, an eighth grader at Connellsville Junior High, is a student of Culver Karate School in Connellsville, Penn., and was named the 2016 Competitor of the Year.

Detwiler, who’s been training in martial arts since age 5, has advanced to a brown belt and picked up four state championships along the way. Detwiler competes in Kata, Weapons, Sparring and Board Breaking with sparring being his favorite. He is currently undefeated in the Warriors United circuit.

A two-sport athlete Detwiler has also been playing soccer since age 6 and currently competes for the junior high team as well as both inhouse and traveling teams with the Connellville Soccer Club.

The Warriors United Tournament Circuit continues its 2016 season on April 23 in Grafton, West Virginia, at the Rumble on the River 3, presented by Dragon’s Den MMA. Tournament actions begins on Greatmats Karate Mats at 11 a.m. at Grafton High School. Two hundred competitors ages 4 and up are expected to represent 25 martial arts academies at the tournament.
